In Berlin on Saturday, a man classified as an Islamist, who was known to police, had served time in a juvenile detention center, drove his van into an LGBTQ Pride event. Then he got out of the car and started slashing people with a machete. He murdered a woman, injured 29 other people, and was shot dead by police. But German leftists were quick to make excuses for him, to say they wished a white man had done it, to say masculinity was at fault, to demand the attack not be politicized.
But of course, it was a political attack. The Christopher Street Day event was attacked because it was a gay, Western event and not for any other reason. The organizers are so blind to the flaws in their own worldview that they still believe it is the fault of the West for being attacked and not the fault of the attacker for doing the killing. They see victims and oppressors everywhere except when assigning those labels would screw up their own political perspective. They can't question their own political views because they don't actually believe in anything else.
Police conducted a manhunt after the attack, finding Ballout about 20 hours later in a garden in the Spandau neighborhood of Berlin. He ran toward officers with a knife, causing police to open fire and kill him. He died from his injuries at the scene. This means, of course, that judges will not have the chance to give him a sweetheart sentence and release him into psychiatric care instead of prison, as they've done with so many others in Europe.
Berliners were celebrating Christopher Street Day, the city's longest-running Pride event, when 21-year-old Abdul Ballout drove a van into the crowd. The party was called off after the terror attack.
Authorities said that Ballout belonged to the "Islamist scene" in Berlin. While he was born in Germany, his family is Lebanese and he apparently tried to join ISIS by traveling to Syria and Lebanon. Lebanon imprisoned him for "incitement to religious and sectarian conflict," but once he was out after just three months he headed back to Germany.
Even as the gay crowd was attacked by a Muslim, the Pride attendees seemed to experience a vast disconnect. A speaker at the vigil following the attack, said that when she heard about the terror attack she hoped that the killer was not a Muslim but was a white Christian. Why would she wish that except that her tightly held beliefs tell her that brown Muslim men are victims and white Christians are oppressors and she'd rather believe lies than question her own beliefs?
Organizers of the Christopher Street Day event read a statement saying that the terror attack carried out by a radicalized Muslim young man should not be politicized. They'd rather continue to bolster the idea that Europe and the West should cede their ground, language, and culture to people who hate them than admit that their manufactured progressive worldview is wrong. They said they don't want the attack to be used "for political ends," but Abdul Ballout already politicized it.
"We don't want any group to be placed under suspicion for this," said organizers. "People are trying to divide our society and set some people against others. As the CSD in Berlin, we will not allow this."
Another leftist woman blamed masculinity for the attack, saying "The problem is masculinity! We as a society have failed; Abdul was only released from the youth prison in May and would have needed more support for his reintegration I can't understand that the state didn't pay for his participation in seminars on critical masculinity. Abdul would have needed our help."
Just a few hours before the attack, a gay man wearing a keffiyeh, a symbol of Palestinian solidarity, claimed that "Israel is the aggressor in the entire Middle Eastern region right now, bombing everyone." He clearly believes that Muslim Palestinians are their allies—but with allies like these, who needs enemies?
These leftists don't at all realize that the brown Muslims for whom they feel so much sympathy don't want the values and culture the progressive left is peddling, they don't want it at all, that's why they keep attacking it. And these attacks will continue, whether they are politicized or not, until the West learns to value itself, its culture, and puts a stop to the invasion of Islamism that seeks to destroy it.
