How's it going America,

Check out our latest episode of The Pod Millennial! I sit down with Jennifer Sey — former athlete, Levi's exec, and founder of XX-XY Athletics — to talk about why she gave up her career to stand up for female athletes, what really happened at Levi's, and the ideology erasing women from their own sports. Brand new episodes drop every Tuesday! Listen, rate (5 stars, of course!), and subscribe!

Let's get into it:

I was not at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night. I was not there when shots rang out, nor did I dive under the table in my black tie finery and wonder what would become of my collateral self as the illustrious electeds and cabinet officials were whisked from the room. I was instead at the annual dinner for a local Republican group, talking to people who are running in local elections, gearing up for the coming primary.

I heard from candidates who said they had not intended on becoming leaders but felt compelled to stand up when no one else would, from justices who took on the position when they were thrust into it, and from people who were not looking to gain power or to monopolize influence but to do what's right and just for the people of their districts and counties.

It was when I was driving away, taking my son for some promised barbecue and brisket, that I got a call from a fellow Post Millennial staffer telling me that for the third time, an attempt had been made on President Trump's life. We stopped in the parking lot of the restaurant while I wrote an article about the events from my phone.

You will have plenty of time to hear from the people who were there, they will tell you, as they should, what it was like to be there for that third assassination attempt. Some of those who were there in DC at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night were there in Butler in July 2024, and have been tracking national politics for their entire careers.

We've never seen a presidency like this one: two terms with a four year split between them, multiple assassination attempts, a shocking divide between those who voted for him and those who did not, the massive movement to do nothing more, and nothing less, than to "resist" the president. The alleged shooter, Cole Allen, was a leftist who hated Trump, backed Ukraine, and bought into the talking points of the Democratic Party.

He believed the hype about Trump being the absolute worst guy, a huge threat to democracy, and the rest of it. So he bought guns in California, traveled from Los Angeles to DC via train, checked into the Washington Hilton the day before the dinner, and was able to saunter down to the ballroom and open fire.

But what's wild is how normalized attempts on Trump's life have become and how normalized calling for his murder has become. There have been three previous attempts that we know about. There have likely been more that have not come to fruition. Just two days before this attempt on Trump's life, Jimmy Kimmel said First Lady Melania Trump has "a glow like an expectant widow."

Hasan Piker and others joke about how "someone's got to do it," meaning someone must kill the president. They offer free beer. It's absolutely insane that this is the reality we're living in, that it's just common among those in the Democrat Party to call for the killing of the man in the White House. It's got to stop, but I don't think it will. I'm just glad the third time was not the charm.
