Let's get into it:

The US men's hockey team won Olympic gold. In a fierce competition against their Canadian rivals, the ferocious men's team skated to victory with a 2-1 overtime win. Jack Hughes scored the game-winning goal while goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 41 saves. It was the first win for Team USA in Olympic men's hockey in 46 years and the team was ecstatic over the win.

So too was the President of the United States, and he called the team while they were celebrating in the locker room post-win. The team was cracking beers, and the president was cracking jokes. The team of American men were thrilled, and to top it off they were congratulated by their nation's leader on the decisive victory. Trump invited them to the White House and also to attend his State of the Union address, where he praised them and Congress and assembled guests stood to welcome home the champs.

It was mere moments after the win that the American media pounced on the team, claiming they were somehow winning wrong by accepting accolades from the Commander-in-Chief. Literally what the hell. These articles suddenly started appearing where lefties and progressives complained that Team USA had taken a national bonding moment and made it divisive by accepting praise from our nation's democratically elected leader. It was hard to keep track of all the nonsense being slung at this team of American heroes.

The players went back to their NHL teams to suit up and play but journalists showed up in locker rooms to complain to the men about, what else, laughing when Trump made a joke in the middle of their victory celebration. Brady Tkachuk faced one such reporter when he returned to the Ottawa Senators. The woman reporter tried to struggle session him over it.

Tkachuk looked annoyed, as would anyone be with such an inane question. "I know you supported the women's team," said the reporter, referring to the gold medal winning women's Team USA hockey team. "I saw you watching their semi-final... could you understand how they could feel pretty put down by that moment?" The moment she was referring to was when Trump invited Team USA to the State of the Union, following up with the fact that he'd invite the women's team too.

The women's team was unable to attend the State of the Union, but did accept the invitation to the White House. "I get it," Tkachuk said, going on to say that "I have no really other comments other than for the things we can control, and that was we supported them they supported us, can't control what other people say, that's just life itself." He praised the team. But the reporter wouldn't let up.

"So then why would you laugh when they got invited?" She asked. She might also have felt a little salty that Tkachuk had dashed Team Canada's hopes of a gold medal. The Canadian men's team walked away with the silver.

"It was a whirlwind of a moment that, you can't really control..." he said. But for him, his win was not going to be tarnished.

"You're talking to the President 10 minutes after you just achieved your dream...," he said. "You can't really believe where your life's at that you're talking to the President of the United States after you just won a gold medal."

Jack Hughes got a standing ovation in Pittsburgh.
