Hi everyone-
I've been watching the Trump speech at Davos this morning and he is just handing European leaders their asses. On energy, NATO, immigration, military force, and yes, Greenland, Trump told Europe exactly who runs the world. He told Europe he would not use force to take Greenland, which concern, of course, raised reasonable fear in the Europeans.
Addressing NATO head Mark Rutte, who was in the crowd, Trump said "We never asked for anything, and we never got anything. We probably won't get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be, frankly, unstoppable, but I won't do that. Okay. Now everyone's saying, 'Oh, good.'
"That's probably the biggest statement I made, because people thought I would use force. I don't have to use force. I don't want to use force. I won't use force. All the United States is asking for is a place called Greenland, where we already had it as a trustee, but respectfully returned it to Denmark not long ago, after we defeated the Germans, the Japanese, the Italians and others in World War Two, we gave it back to them. We were a powerful force then, but we are much more powerful force now, after I rebuilt the military in my first term, and continue to do so today," he said.

He came back to Greenland a few times in his speech, though at its first mention, he said that the topic wasn't actually in his speech. Trump looked to be listing off some grievances, too, as he told Europe that they've allowed unfettered migration to ruin their cities and nations. America, he said, was subsidizing every nation in the world, and for free, too, and said the US hasn't got anything in return. Frankly, we haven't even gotten respect.
Do I sound like Rodney Dangerfield? Someone should do a Trump Dangerfield AI delivering remarks to EU leaders like they're at a nightclub in Las Vegas, it could be very funny. If you do it, just give me credit.
Gavin Newsom was out there looking uneasy as Trump delivered remarks. Newsom is a globalist who thinks that there's some worldwide moral standard to which the US is not adhering—what he and his allies like Mark Carney, Emmanuel Macron, and Keir Starmer don't realize is that there is a moral standard, but it's an American one, and the EU is not complying with that. I'm sure they don't like it. But I will say that if some nation or another is gonna be in charge, it is far better that it should be us than anyone else.
