Hi everyone-
America has subdued Venezuela—is Greenland next? Ah, Greenland, that frigid territory to the North, last vestige of the former colonial empire ruled by the tiny European nation of Denmark, that Donald Trump has had his eyes covetously on since his first term.
After the Caracas operation, influencers like White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller's wife Katie posted their wish that Greenland should be the next US conquest. "SOON!" Katie Miller posted. Jack Posobiec told Steve Bannon "America has protected Greenland for years. It's time to call it what it is: United States territory."
Steven Miller talked to Jake Tapper on CNN and said, "Obviously, Greenland should be part of the United States," adding "Nobody is going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland.” As to Denmark's control of the territory, he said "Greenland has a population of 30,000 people. The real question is by what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland. What is the basis of their territorial claim? What is their basis of having Greenland as a territory of Denmark?"

During the early days ahead of Trump's second term, Charlie Kirk went to Greenland with Don Jr. JD Vance went, too, along with his wife, Usha. Greenlanders welcomed the Americans, saying they didn't particularly favor Danish rule, either, but that they wanted to self-govern. The Trumpy idea is that Greenland is essential to American self-defense.
The White House put out a statement, saying "President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States. The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the US military is always an option at the commander-in-chief’s disposal.”
Enter Marco Rubio, who apparently told Congress that the plan is to make Denmark an offer they can't refuse and buy the glacial land mass. Denmark has said it's not for sale, and other NATO nations said that should be respected. Some US congressmen joined in and said it was just rude to offer to buy allies' land at this historical juncture, or something like that. And yeah it's been a long time since the US acquired new land, the last being the Northern Mariana Islands in 1986. But is it really so bad?
Better to be an imperialist making a cash offer than an imperialist sending in an occupying force, or using aid funds to coerce and cajole foreign leaders into submission. Maybe it's time we pick up some new property, and what better property than one that's strategically located and currently surrounded, as Trump says it is, with enemy ships? China is always out there laying claim to land through the use of blunt force, Russia too. How much more civilized it would be to write a check.
