Hi everyone-

Another new year is upon us. I spent the final hours of 2025 making brownies with my son and his friends, eating said brownies, and lighting up sparklers on the back porch. It was pretty low key for me, but a sleepover for them, so they had fun and I got credit for allowing it. A win for me.

I'm not a big believer in New Year's resolutions because I figure if there's a new thing upon which I want to embark, a habit I wish to create, there's no reason to put it off until some arbitrary calendar deadline. The time is now, just start. That's true for working out, or eating right, or rejecting the need or endless scrolling, which is one I struggle with. I know I'd rather be reading, but there's one more Instagram reel I want to see before I pick up the thing of substance. It's not always easy to handle substance after a full day of news consumption.

There's always this hope, in scrolling, that perhaps the next thing will be the best thing. The best thing though, is probably allowing your imagination the space and time to create and dream without constant inputs.

Okay, I take it back, if there's one thing I could resolve for all of us this year, it would be to give some autonomy back to the human mind, to disengage from the constant stream, and to allow our hearts and souls to feed us instead of pumping them full of high-fat feed like we're just some caged duckling waiting to be turned int foie gras.

It's easy to let the scrolling make you angry. Just yesterday I watched a press conference from daycare providers and leftist lawmakers in Minnesota who defended the Somali fraudsters and blamed Trump. They had no Somali daycare owners there, just one Somali woman, who kind of lost her cool when she read "fraud is bad" from her script. The whole thing was weird and infuriating. Probably I will write about it.

I took a look at the top columns from Human Events this year, and was surprised to find that I had five of the top ten. Here are the links if you'd like to check them out. There's actually some good writing in here, so that makes me happy. The one about traveling with the Sec War was my favorite though.
