New Yorkers elected a socialist who has made many, many socialist campaign promises. These include raising the minimum wage to $30/hour, eliminating fares for city buses, creating city-run grocery stores, establishing free childcare, and freezing the rent even for private property.
Mamdani mentioned single moms and grandparents in his speech but made ZERO mention of fathers or families. He said "We will prove that there is no problem to large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about."
Virginia voters last night elected as top cop a man who wishes death upon his Republican colleagues and their children. They didn't vote for him in spite of this. They voted for him because they're cool with it. Jay Jones beat out incumbent Jason Miyares.
Republicans lost their gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia as well, with Abigail Spanberger backing Jones. Mikie Sherrill won her race to lead New Jersey but she's still a better option than Ras Baraka, socialist mayor of Newark, who was also running to top the Dem ticket.
Most of these Democrats weren't even running against their Republican opponents, they were running against Donald Trump. They go out to the voters and say "Trump is bad, the other guy likes Trump, vote for me."And that's pretty much all it takes. Jay Jones has promised to "protect Virginia against the Trump administration. Mikie Sherrill said that on day one in office in Trenton she would sign New Jersey on to other states' lawsuits against Trump.
Cuomo was endorsed by Trump at the last minute and Mamdani went out there and told New Yorkers that Cuomo would be in Trump's pocket. Mamdani has even said that he believes Trump intends to tear New York apart and that he sees his job as mayor as Trump-proofing New York.
California Governor Gavin Newsom pushed the same anti-Trump initiative as he launched his plan for California to vote to bypass the state constitution and allow the legislature to redistrict the state's congressional map as a means to—what else—fight Trump.
Somehow hating one guy who is beloved by half the country is the way the Democrats intend to win back the nation. But their methods, not caring when their AG nom calls for the murder of a colleague and his children, promising socialism in the nation's biggest city, are far worse than the policies of one, two-term president.
