Hi everyone,
A young girl who was nearly killed in a school shooting in Minneapolis in August has come home. Sophia Forchas, who was shot when a trans alum of the school opened fire through the stained glass windows, was driven home from the hospital yesterday after two months of recovery.
Her parents say that "the road to recovery remains long," but she is able to come home. The 12-year-old was in critical condition when she was transported from the school on August 27, as two of her classmates lost their lives.
The girl had been shot in the head. The shooter killed two and injured more than a dozen others. It wasn't until Sept. 11 that she was moved to a serious condition from critical and doctors said she had "a chance for improved prognosis." She'd been put in a coma, and part of her skull was removed due to brain swelling.
Sophia Forchas turns 13 at the end of October. A fundraiser for her has brought in $1,178,000. Two of her classmates, Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski, were killed. Another 8th grader, Lydia Kaiser, was released earlier in September.

The amount of violence we've seen in our society has been so extreme as to be mind numbing and heart breaking. It's hard to face it day after day as political leaders seem to call for more, as do pundits and entertainers sewing division.
Forcas' return home brings hope. She's the last victim of the shooting to return home and though other families will never see their two children again, her recovery is a reminder that there is still goodness, there is still light.
