It turns out that Virginia's Democratic candidate for attorney general knew the children whose lives he threatened. He was in the Virginia General Assembly when the children of Todd Gilbert were there and a colleague to both men, Terry Kilgore, said that the Gilbert kids were there all the time.
"His two little kids are just precious little kids, two little boys. In school now, but at that time," Kilgore said, "they were around the General Assembly all the time. Everybody knew the Gilbert kids, and Jay Jones would have known the Gilbert kids, that's what's terrible about this whole situation. It wasn't like 'hey, I want to kill a kid from another country,' you would know these kids because you're around the General Assembly."
Jones had told a colleague in 2022 that he wished Gilbert's wife could watch her own children die in her arms so that Gilbert would reconsider his position on gun control. The police union called on him to quit the race but all he did was cancel a fundraiser. This from the guy who tried to force a cop out of a job for donating to Kyle Rittenhouse.
At the time, when he was pressed on it by the colleague to whom he was revealing all this, he confirmed his view, saying "Yes, I've told you this before. Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy." He went on to say, "I mean do I think Todd and Jennifer are evil? And that they're breeding little fascists? Yes."
He also seemed to think cops should be killed so that they would kill less. Virginia Democrats keep supporting Jones. So does former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger backs him too. When she was questioned about it by her opponent, she stood stone-faced and refused to answer.
Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears was mocked by Democrats for even questioning Spanberger about her endorsement of a man who threatened the lives of children he actually knew. They leaned into the whole "angry black woman" thing instead of demanding answers from their own candidates. But sure, tell me again how all the violence and racism is on the conservative side.
