Hi everyone,
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, advisor to President Trump, husband, father of two young children, was murdered in cold blood yesterday, assassinated as he spoke at a campus event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. This is a generational event on the level of the assassinations of 1968 when Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. We'll never forget where we were when we heard the news that Kirk had been shot.
I had just arrived on the set of the podcast Pop Culture Crisis when host Mary Morgan and producer Tate Brown told me that Charlie Kirk had been shot. I reached out to The Post Millennial editorial team and asked if they'd seen this and if it was real, we all found out together that yes, a man whom we all respected had been shot.
It wasn't long before we knew for sure that he had been killed, and none of us wanted to believe it. In our newsroom chat, we agreed that we would not report on his death until it had been officially, undeniably confirmed. "If we're the last outlet to write this down that's okay," I said, as we all held out hope for the man who has done so much for America, for the conservative movement, and for our hearts and souls.
It's an absolute horror that this happened. And a suspect is not yet in custody.
President Donald Trump spoke eloquently about the loss of his friend. Amid the praise for Charlie and his work, he spoke about the increasing problem of leftist violence.
"For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now," he said.
On Timcast last night, we all wondered aloud if it would stop, and the consensus was that no, it's not over, it's only going to ramp up. The chatter on social media is that the extremist left wants this to happen, they want more of it, and they want to destroy that which they disagree with. They call words violence and then respond with bullets. I'm not gonna lie, it's a little on the terrifying side.
I was on Charlie Kirk's show yesterday morning with his guest host and producer Andrew Kolvet while Charlie was in Utah. We talked about leftist rhetoric and violence, we talked about it being an open season of violence. And it was such a short time later that this ultimate violence was carried out.
Every time I got the chance to talk to Charlie I was honored to do so. The conversation was always interesting, open, direct and honest, which are things I value entirely. Here are a few episodes:
