Hi everyone!
Cracker Barrel is getting a makeover, and not everyone is happy about it. Instead of all a whole lotta crazy crap on the walls, and a logo featuring an old man leaning on a barrel, the CEO has given it a fresh new minimalist look. The only problem is that people don't go to Cracker Barrel for hipster minimalism, they go for all the rest of the stuff. Otherwise, why not just go to Denny's? Waffle House? IHOP? The new logo is just letters on a six-sided yellow shape. The company said it's “rooted even more closely to the iconic barrel shape and word mark that started it all.”
Customers don't see it that way. The CEO seems to have forgotten that many of the customers of the restaurant (or is it a store?) are conservative and conservatives don't like change. Cracker Barrel has had the same design since 1977 and CEO Julie Felss Masino is under fire for abandoning the traditionalism that secured Cracker Barrel's place on the American landscape. The company saw a reverse Sydney Sweeney effect: the stock price dropped 20% after Masino's plans emerged. Now that stock is weaker than it's been in 10 years.

And of course, lots of people took aim at Masino for being yet another middle-aged white lady making things less great for the rest of us. Just once I'd like the middle-aged white ladies, ladies like me, to say "Y'know what? The traditions that came before me really have value, what this company/nation/culture has built is good and strong, let's hold it up, bolster it, and see that it survives in all its glory for another 100 years." Instead of remaking what's already there, ladies, you could always come up with something new and leave what's old alone.
In DC, the crime crackdown continues. A man was arrested on the National Mall and the arrest was caught on video by a journalist who shared the footage, saying “BREAKING: Just saw DC Police + federal agents detain a man on the National Mall. He appeared to try to escape, then was quickly tackled to the ground by several agents + was screaming in Spanish ‘please, I’m not a criminal, I work here, I want to be with my family.’” Cue extra sympathy for the guy.
Until DHS jumped in to set the record straight. "This illegal alien from Mexico was previously arrested in January 2024 in Fairfax County for aggravated sexual assault of a child under 13. He entered and had a final order of removal and chose to voluntarily return- twice. Illegally entered 3 times. Thank you to law enforcement for getting him off of Washington DC’s streets." Oh.
So again, the leftist media has more sympathy for criminals, child molesters, illegal immigrants, and people who hate the country than they do for children, law abiding persons, and people who just want to live in safety. It's really astonishing that this keeps being the case. Scott Jennings said it rather concisely on CNN with Abby Phillip last night.
Why did the Dems lose 2.1 million voters? "They've chosen all the wrong constituencies," Jennings said. "They seem to care more about illegal aliens than American citizens... and the Palestinian flag more than the American flag. And when you take those positions on things like that people tend to run to the other party." His Dem colleagues on the panel kept saying "no, no, no," but then you have a look at what they're supporting and, to quote Shakespeare, the Dems "doth protest too much, methinks."
