Hi everyone!
Gina Carano has been engaged in a lawsuit against Disney for wrongful termination and last night she announced that she's come to a settlement. After she was fired from Star Wars: The Mandalorian, where she was well-loved by audiences, she was essentially blacklisted in Hollywood. Now that she's won a settlement, I'm here to tell you woke is officially over.
Her crime? She posted a meme during Covid that said "Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?"
Lucasfilm said the post was "abhorrent and unacceptable." Cast member Pedro Pascal said his own crazy things. Pascal posted in 2018 a comparison of the detention of children by border control at the US/Mexico border to the detention of Jewish children by the Nazi regime during World War II in Germany—he was celebrated for making the comparison between Hitler and the Trump administration.
But now, after getting legal aid from Elon Musk, Carano was able to take Lucasfilms and Disney to court and win. "I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force," she said on X. This comes after the studio tried to have the lawsuit dismissed.
"The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies," the losers said upon the settlement of the suit. "Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future."
I'm super happy about this result. Carano is an excellent actress and a wonderful person who brings light to the world. I interviewed her on the set of Terror on the Prairie in Montana in 2021 and found her to be truly an exceptional woman. I hope she gets great new projects and is welcomed fully back into the entertainment industry, where she belongs.
