Hi everyone!
New York City is set to spend $65 million on a homeless shelter just for trans people. The shelter was the result of a lawsuit where a trans homeless person—ahem, unhoused person—felt discriminated against in city shelters. A judge said the city had to provide appropriate accommodations for homeless people who are steeped in critical gender theory, are delusional enough to believe they are the opposite sex, or don't feel like they are either sex at all.
Luxuries can for sure sometimes feel like necessities, but when you have a city that's already struggling to provide shelters for families, for children, is this really the best use of cash? I think not. The shelter system is pretty frustrating. In lots of shelters, a person who is staying there has to leave in the morning and can't come back until evening, at which time they have to stand in long lines hoping again to get a bed.
I've seen homeless families dragging a suitcase each through the subway system, children trying to do their homework on a bumpy, loud train en route to a family shelter. That $65 million could be far better spent on securing homes for homeless families, making sure the city's children have safe places to get their homework done so they can live up to their potential—this just seems so shockingly wasteful.
This morning, Trump announced plans for the next census to get a count of just Americans, not the millions of illegal immigrants who are in the US. In many of our biggest states—Texas, California, Illinois, New York, Florida—there are millions of illegal immigrants. Their numbers are used for Congressional apportionment, which could be skewing the House representation from those states.
"I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern-day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024. People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump said.
