Hi everyone!
A Massachusetts city council member was seen on ICE body cam footage attempting to block immigration agents from making an arrest. Etel Haxhiaj blocked immigration agents with her body in a vain attempt to stop the arrest of an illegal immigrant who was charged with child endangerment, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. The woman was said to be a "violent criminal alien" who had been arrested previously for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a pregnant woman. The woman came to the US in 2022.
DHS assistant sec Tricia McLaughlin had this to say about it: "District Councilor for the City of Worcester [Etel] Haxhiaj pulled a political stunt and incited chaos by trying to obstruct law enforcement. ICE officers and local police regained control of the situation and ICE arrested Ferreira de Oliveira. The previous administration’s open border policies allowed this criminal to illegally enter our country in August of 2022. Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem this criminal is off our streets."
In San Diego, another city council member called ICE agents "state-sponsored terrorists" after ICE engaged in workplace immigration enforcement. When ICE went into some local restaurants to carry out enforcement, workers got in their way to prevent it. Only American citizens or those with work permits or valid visas are permitted to work in the United States. Under the Bush administration, paperwork procedures were put in place to ensure that employers only hired people who were permitted to work. That doesn't stop many employers from hiring people who aren't legal to work outright or from hiring people using falsified social security numbers.
San Diego city council member Sean Elo-Rivera spoke out against the enforcement, saying "These are federal agents carrying out raids under the false pretense of ‘safety.' This isn’t safety. It’s state-sponsored terrorism. And anyone who cares about freedom—and true safety—should be fighting back." This follows the Tennessee state rep who bragged about interfering in ICE arrests as well as the Nashville mayor being accused of aiding and abetting illegal immigrants. Not to mention the mess at Newark's Delaney Hall where Congress members showed up to "conduct oversight." The same oversight they didn't conduct for four years.
DHS didn't like that, saying "Elected officials comparing ICE law enforcement agents to terrorists is SICKENING. Attacks and demonization of ICE and our partners are wrong. ICE officers are now facing a 413% increase in assaults. ICE is working day and night to remove murder[er]s, pedophiles, and gang members from American communities."
Border czar Tom Homan went on Sean Hannity's Fox Show to talk about the problems the country is facing because of the last four years of extremely lax immigration policies. The Boulder Colorado terror suspect was given a work permit after overstaying his tourist visa—that expired in March and it turns out he'd been planning the attack for over a year. Homan said the Biden administration was giving out work visas "like candy."
"We're out there kicking butt," Homan said. "We're arresting a lot of criminal aliens. We're out there looking for the bad guys. And while we're doing that, we got protesters assaulting ICE officers. We've got members of Congress all over the country going to ICE facilities, raising hell, saying this is their 'oversight responsibility.' Where was the oversight responsibility when 10.5 million illegal immigrants came across the border? Where's the oversight responsibility for releasing over 8 million illegal immigrants into this country? Where's the oversight responsibility then?"
These are of course the key questions. To the judiciary who is refusing to allow the Trump administration to enforce laws, to the Congress members and local electeds who are complaining up a storm over immigration enforcement, to the pundits who have nothing but disdain for the necessary work being done, where were you for the past four years when laws were being broken when the country was being remade against the will of the people?
Universities have brought in more international students in 2023 than they ever had before, exposing them to a curriculum that teaches them America sucks. It's no wonder that so many come to our campuses only to protest our nation and our national interests. Biden brought in insane amounts of illegal immigrants, not just through his semi-legal methods, but by allowing millions to pour across without being apprehended. We're told it's the empathetic thing to do even though we know it isn't and now, as these ugly scenes play out across the US, the one thing that strikes me is that none of this had to happen.
Biden could have kept the border wall, he could have allowed the remain-in-Mexico policy to continue, and instead of catch-and-release, he could have said catch-and-deport. But that wasn't in his interest, though it was in America's interest. And now, our nation is forced to carry out deportations, conduct raids, and enforce laws that the previous administration had broken outright.
Here's what's on my desk today:
