It was immigration day at the White House on Monday. Tom Homan joined Karoline Leavitt in the press briefing room to give an update on the work done during Trump's first 100 days. Homan detailed changes made to the Biden administration's immigration policy. Illegal immigration has hit record lows after the Biden administration saw up to 15,000 illegal border crossings per day. This means that child trafficking into the US is down, revenue to smuggling cartels is down, and fentanyl coming across the border is down. Homan has spent his 40-year career in border control and is determined to protect America by keeping people out, removing people who shouldn't be here, and making room for an orderly immigration system.
Homan revealed two details about the Biden administration's handling of the border crisis that would be shocking were they not exactly what we thought was going on the whole time. The border chaos, Homan said, was enacted against America on purpose. "Joe Biden was the first president in the history of the United States who came into office and unsecured the border on purpose," Homan said.
"Border numbers are historical," Homan said. "Today, as I'm standing here, we have the most secure border in the history of this nation, and the numbers prove it. President Trump's policies are saving lives every day." He said that 31 percent of the women who cross the border are sexually assaulted by cartels. Illegal immigration is down 96 percent, reducing the number of sexual assaults and the deaths of children from the journey.
The Biden administration also ended the DNA testing program that was put in place by the first Trump administration. The termination of that program, Homan said, allows children to be smuggled into the country. In ending the program, the Biden team said that it was because the contract with the rapid DNA testing company ran out. Advocates of ending the program said it was unethical. Among those was the National Institutes of Health, which said "Many of the potential harms of DNA testing are shared across immigration and health-related contexts, including discrimination, stigmatization, privacy violations, revelation of sensitive information (such as misattributed parentage), and poorly informed or coerced consent." So in other words, it was worth it to see children trafficked into sex slavery so that dads who weren't the dads didn't find out.
As part of their immigration highlights, the White House lined the lawn near the broadcast row with lawn signs showing mugshots of some of the criminals who had been deported. When discussing this, MSNBC blurred out the photos and complained that they were "forced" to show viewers this parade of horribles.
"What’s particularly noteworthy about this location is it is right directly behind the positions where TV correspondents do their hits from the White House lawn. So, therefore, no matter what network you’re on, that includes MSNBC, if you're doing a hit from the White House right now, those pictures will be behind you," said an anchor. Morning Joe said the mugshots were of people who may not be criminals at all: "The White House has not provided any information to support their claims that these are criminals who have been arrested."
We held out hope that Canada's Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre would sail to victory in the national election and become prime minister of our great neighbor to the north, but those hopes were dashed as Mark Carney, recently installed as PM by the Liberals, retained his shortly held seat—the very first elected office he's ever held. As if not winning the national election wasn't bad enough, Poilievre even lost his seat in his own Carleton riding. Just to note: Canada has a Parliamentary system, so when voters head to the polls they vote only for their Member of Parliament. Whichever party gets the most MPs gets to have their leader become PM. While the Conservatives put up a good showing, it just wasn't enough to make the difference.
