Karmelo Anthony, now 18, the Texas teen accused of fatally stabbing 17-year-old <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/austin-metcalfs-twin-brother-accepts-posthumous-diploma-to-standing-ovation-year-after-karmelo-anthony-charged-with-murder-in-texas">Austin Metcalf</a> during a high school track meet in Frisco last year, has pleaded <a href="https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/frisco-murder-trial/frisco-track-meet-stabbing-trial-karmelo-anthony-austin-metcalf-collin-county-texas/287-7c1d117b-918d-44f6-acb7-09a418176322">not guilty</a> to the first-degree murder charge and is claiming he acted in self-defense during the April 2, 2025 stabbing.<br />

The case took place at David Kuykendall Stadium during a Frisco Independent School District track meet. Prosecutors allege the altercation began when Metcalf asked Anthony to move from beneath a team tent. According to police, Anthony responded by reaching into his bag and warning Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens.” Investigators allege Metcalf then grabbed Anthony, who pulled out a knife and stabbed him once in the chest before fleeing. Police have said Metcalf was unarmed.<br />

Metcalf died at the scene in the arms of his twin brother.<br />

Following the incident, Anthony allegedly told officers that he was protecting himself and that Metcalf had “put his hands on me.” According to reports, Anthony also asked officers after his arrest whether his actions could be considered self-defense.<br />

A grand jury indicted Anthony on a first-degree murder charge in June 2025.<br />
<br />
Anthony was initially held on a $1 million bond before it was <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/karmelo-anthony-on-house-arrest-in-lavish-900000-home-in-gated-community-report">reduced</a> to $250,000.<br />
